There’s no better way to start this post than with my signature blog introduction: Hey, y’all!
My name is JC Phelps and I am the creator behind JCP Eats – a Louisville-based food, travel, and southern lifestyle blog/Instagram community. In my personal life, I am a Centre College (BS) and Western Kentucky University (MBA) alumnus, a student at the University of Louisville Brandeis School of the Law, and a globetrotter.
While JCP Eats serves as a culinary resource here in the Commonwealth, its roots are much, much deeper. I started the page out of ED recovery, a struggle that I very openly talk about online. In my past, I have dealt with multiple eating disorders; however, I used my passion for photography to overcome them. Taking photos of my food changed my relationship with food; it taught me to see my plate as art, as a culinary journey, as culture – not as an enemy. For that, I am eternally grateful.
Similarly, JCP Eats has morphed into a bipartite community: for one, it’s dominated by food/lifestyle – however, it has merged into a body positive space as well. My page is hate-free, diet-free, body-loving, and all-accepting. We will talk about cheese one day and traveling while fat the next. We talk about hosting parties and building confidence in swimsuits. We talk about lobster rolls and fat rolls. I have found that the two arenas are not mutually exclusive – in fact, they are quite related. I label my journey in food as becoming “food positive” – this has led to my impact, however small, in the larger body positive movement.
I am proud of the community that has grown out of my platform. We are a group, a family. We love food, we love experiences, and we love one another. I have formed many relationships with my followers. My inbox is always open – I’ll tell you about my favorite restaurant, where you should go when you visit a particular city/state/country, or I’ll talk to you about my/your body. Confidentiality is of utmost importance to me.
I am thankful for each and every follower allowing me to be a part of their online life. It is a privilege – and one that I do not take lightly.
This platform made my partnership with Yes Louisville a natural one. We both wholeheartedly believe in the power of positivity. We believe in refraining from negativity, in uplifting others, in changing the lives of others by creating positive, insightful content. It is for this reason that I am honored to have been brought on the team as an influencer.
Each Wednesday on my Instagram account (@jcpeats), I do a #JCPEatsWithYes post. There, I largely talk about the most recent restaurant that I’ve tried, a new experience that I’ve had, or what I’d currently recommend. I am also going to be contributing a monthly column here on www.yeslouisville.com; in these posts, I am going to discuss my body, body positivity, and my journey to self-love and full acceptance (plus, you know I’ll have to talk about the food here in the 502, too!).
I look forward to each and every word that I will share with y’all in the future. Thank you for reading! As I mentioned above, my inbox is always open. You can reach me via DM on Instagram (@jcpeats) or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org); furthermore, you can keep up with more of my adventures on my website, www.jcpeats.com.
As I always say: Happy Eating, Happy Traveling, Happy Living.
Y’all come back now, ya hear?
