Change is inevitable. Sometimes we become stale and stuck in the depths of our own minds. We are our own worst enemy. We worry and cause ourselves undo stress and sometimes harm. I was recently introduced to meditation. Talk about change!
Welcome to #TheDailyYes. The idea is simple- we are sharing some of the quotes, phrases, and pearls of wisdom that have helped us throughout the years.
A few simple words can completely change the way a person thinks about things. A person’s success, self-worth, and impact on the world can be completely attributed to the way he or she thinks about things.Jason Mudd, Executive Officer
Trust me, I laughed and thought about some hippie trying to find their inner peace but that was not a fair assessment. I decided to give it a try, I mean what’s the harm?
I have lived with several Zen masters– all of them cats.Eckhart Tolle
I downloaded an app called Headspace to start my meditation journey. I had no idea how to start or what I was supposed to do. Headspace will guide you and help you to fully understand what it is that you are trying to accomplish. I’m on day 7 and let me tell you, I’m hooked! I meditate for 10 minutes in the morning before I start my ‘get ready to conquer the world’ routine. It gives me a chance to breathe and relax. Those short 10 minutes gives me the opportunity to reflect over the previous days’ events and how I handled them.
I sometimes catch myself holding my breath when I’m stressed out or have a make a big decision to make. Every day that you wake up is an opportunity to start over. You can become a completely different person, you have the power to change everything. I started down a path of negativity in recent months due to a stressful job. Meditation has given me a fresh new perspective on life…. my life.
I’m not a writer, but I do love to talk. That is my job, that is how I make a living. I sell goods and services and I’m damn good at it. I was asked to write about my newfound journey. I was all in and excited until I hit word 300 and I wanted the post to be twice that. As I sat listening to the Bachelor on TV, somewhat distracted, and with my teenage son making fun of the fact that I kept rereading what I had written so far, I had a eureka moment.
Turn off the TV.
Go to a quiet place.
Open the headspace app to the restart course and calm my brain.
I was all over the place and nowhere at the same time. I couldn’t form a thought to put down and share with you. This. This is what meditation is all about. It’s not magic or voodoo. Meditation is about recentering yourself. Finding a place where you can actually feel the weight of your feet on the floor or how to connect with your surroundings. Your brain is so amazing and complex, there are times besides sleep that it needs an opportunity to restart.
Think of it as a computer, you should restart it every night so it can get new updates. Your brain needs the same reboot- it needs to process the day’s thoughts and categorize them. When you take the time to reset your mind and body, you will find yourself feeling more refreshed and able to make better decisions.
Meditation has found a place in my daily routine. I will be forever grateful to the guy that introduced me to it. It will change your life. I know that it has changed mine for the better.
Before you shake meditation off as a joke or something silly, give it a try. You might just be surprised as to what it can it can change. It’s inevitable.
I also want to know what simple phrases, quotes, or other pearls of wisdom have positively impacted your life. I’m going to pick a guest contributor one day a week so that we can keep this lively from a perspective sense. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I appreciate your thoughts!
