Welcome to #TheDailyYes. The idea is simple- we are sharing some of the quotes, phrases, and pearls of wisdom that have helped us throughout the years.

A few simple words can completely change the way a person thinks about things. A person’s success, self-worth, and impact on the world can be completely attributed to the way he or she thinks about things.

I have struggled for a long time with being a perfectionist. I’m a person that likes to tweak things to get the maximum result. I’m a tinkerer. It’s fun to make things better. It doesn’t matter if you’re talking about copy that will explain your wonder-widget to the masses, when and how you’re going to launch that new business, or what you’re going to say to that cute girl or guy that you trade smiles with at Safai every morning- good now is better than perfect later.

“But but but everyone tells me to do my best” you say.

Yes- always do your best. It’s the 4th agreement, after all. But my point with this is to quit preparing for launch and fucking launch the damn thing.

Take action.

If you are a person that truly wants to take action and do things- not simply to ideate and hypothesize- then I would love to break down with you my view of the 80/20 rule. Hopefully, this isn’t a new concept to you.

There is an all encompassing misconception that something we create has to be 100%, tip-top, before we put it out into the world. And that simply isn’t true. If we were to truly strive for perfection we’d be in editing ad infinitum.

ANALYSIS PARALYSIS

The perfect being that created this party eliminated the possibility of perfection from our code. We’re hardwired to never get to perfect- because it’s a waste of time.

Enter the 80 / 20 (eighty / twenty) rule that we touched on previously. The idea is simple and is based on the core life principle of always doing your best. It started, I think, as “80% of your income will come from 20% of your customers”. I get that aspect of it, but another one that is even more powerful is that action at 80% beats inaction at 100% all day, every day.

Just do your thing, whatever that may be, and when you get to the point of completion where you’re just fiddle farting around, check and see if you’re pretty much where you want to be. Think you’re 3/4 of the way? Good. Just a tad bit more is that 80%.

When you’re at this point in the game, you do your due diligence to confirm, and everything checks out- it’s go time!

And I won’t lie– it’s going to be scary AF at first. You’re going to question everything. But you’ll be moving forward.

The more you put this into practice in your daily life the less scary it is. At some point you’ll even realize how much time you’re saving and how much more you’re doing and completing! Because good now is better than perfect later.
