Hey, y’all! If you are located in the Louisville, Kentucky area and are like me, you often get overwhelmed by all there is to do in the city. It seems like my schedule exponentially grows with each day, each week, each weekend. While I’m thankful to live in a city like Louisville, it is also nice to explore all that our great Commonwealth has to offer.
As a food blogger, I get the same question daily. “Where should we dine tonight?” This question is often followed by several stipulations such as taste preferences, dietary restrictions, etc. While I am so proud and privileged to be able to answer questions like this, I often struggle with the answer. I find that restaurants often execute specific, catered specialties the best; these are the dishes and institutions that I am mostly likely to recommend. However, if that doesn’t match up with your palate or a member of your party’s palate, the idea is off of the table and I recognize that.
Enter The Barn at the Summit at Fritz Farm in Lexington, KY. This is the destination for your next day trip from Louisville – trust me on that!
What is The Barn? It’s the first artisan food hall in the Commonwealth of Kentucky – and it is iconic! An all-local, all-independent lineup of restaurateurs comprise this new food destination for the city, with craft ice cream, pasture-raised fried chicken, Greek street food, Japanese ramen, and more. The Barn is where locals can hang and out-of-towners can experience authentic Lexington.
Now, the important part: where y’all can eat!
- Smithtown Seafood – be sure to get the fish in the West Sixth beer batter!
- Atomic Ramen – Japanese style ramen.
- Athenian Grill – fresh, delicious Greek food.
- La Petite Crêperie – French crêpes.
- Pasture by Marksbury Farm – a wide-array of options from Marksbury Farm (one of my favorite producers in KY!).
- Whiskey Bear Bar – amazing cocktails.
- Crank and Boom – craft ice cream featuring local flair and unique flavors.
What’s even better? You can shop Kentucky-branded goods at Kentucky For Kentucky while you’re there!
This is a concept that we needed here in Kentucky. The dining space is shared by all vendors; thus, each person in your party can order from the restaurant of their choosing, satisfy their cravings, while still having a sense of togetherness for the group. It’s the easiest way to please a crowd!
When you are needing a little getaway from the city, give our friends in Lexington and at The Barn a visit – you’ll be thankful that you did!
As always, Happy Eating, Happy Traveling, Happy Living!
Y’all come back now, ya hear?
