For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Charles Wilkerson I’m a 29 year old guy from the great city of Louisville.
Earlier this week I put a cryptic message on facebook earlier this week
And I’m here to let you know about what fun and exciting things are happening.
I’m am super excited to announce that I will be participating in this years Dancing With the Prospect Stars!
So I bet you have a couple of questions. So let be your answer sherpa on question mountain.
Question 1: What is Prospect Dancing with the Stars?
10 local residents, 4 men and 6 women, accepted the challenge to compete for this prestigious title at Bill Collins Ford Lincoln. This event benefits the chamber and the ten individual charities the contestants chose. Each “Star” works with a professional dance instructor from “Derby City Ballroom” for 12 weeks before dancing for the title of “Prospect Star”. During the months leading up to the big night, the stars accept donations on behalf of their chosen charities. Each dollar donated in their name counts as a vote. Your support of this event benefits one or more of the different charities and the Prospect Area Chamber of Commerce. The chamber uses these resources to give back to the community by promoting member businesses and community events.
Question 2: What Charity Did You Choose?
I decided to partner with The Alzheimer’s Association | Greater Louisville & Southern Indiana Chapter. My late grandmother suffered dementia through Parkinson’s. Also, many loved ones of team members of YesLouisville.com were affected by Alzheimer’s or dementia. So it’s something we all can rally behind.
Question 3: What Dance are you going to do?
Jen, my dance partner, and I decided on a foxtrot. For those of you like me and had no idea what a foxtrot dance is..
I met Jen last Wednesday and we got to know each other and for her to start teaching me some basic steps of the foxtrot. I learned the basic step, the oops step, and the twinkle step.
Question 4: How Can I help Support you?
There are 3 ways you can help support me as a boogie for a good cause
- You can buy tickets to Prospect Dancing with the Stars at (http://dancingwithprospectstars.org/tickets/) There are 2 levels of general tickets. Both of them include entry to the event, and “the taste of prospect” but the tickets for $140 includes a seat at a table and dinner with wine (and it’s pretty good food and wine) If you are interested in buying a table at the event, please contact me through facebook or email at email@example.com and I can get you set up with that. (Also if you buy tickets please select my name :))
- You can just donate directly to the charity! If you go to http://bit.ly/CWDWPS you can donate to my Longest Day fundraiser. The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. On June 21, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through an activity of their choice. Together, they use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Granted I’m not dancing on the summer solstice but I’m doing an activity to help shine light on this disease that currently 5.7 million americans are living with. (I’m trying to raise at least $4,000, between tickets sales and general donations) but I want to win, so if you can help me crush this goal, I can start working on my victory dance!
- You can share my journey on social media. If 5.7 Million Americans are living with this and in every 65 seconds someone is developing this disease, there is a chance Alzheimer’s has affected you or a loved one. So if you share this video or this post we have a chance to help exceed my goal so we can raise a whole bunch of money for a good cause.
Going forward I will be posting updates about every 2 weeks and letting you know how my dancing progress is going and where we stand with the fundraising and talk to some of my sponsors about Dancing with the Stars, and Alzheimers.
I truly appreciate you all for reading and supporting me through this. I want to win this thing, but I can not do this without you. Until my next update I’ll talk to you all later.
