It’s been almost two months since my family and I moved from the South End to the East End, and I’ll have to admit, it has been a fairly smooth transition. Since moving, I’ve acquired a pretty lengthy “things to do around St Matthews” list and one of the first things was to check out the newly renovated St. Matthews Eline Library. When I was a kid, I spent countless hours in the Bon-Air branch library with my mom, and I want to give Elle similar memories so I took her with me.
When we pulled into the parking lot, I was immediately amazed by the architecture. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows provided a great preview of the inside of the library, which was packed full of young and old patrons on a Tuesday evening. We walked in and I immediately began snapping pictures (millennial, anyone?). Elle ran over to the children’s section, which was filled with all kinds of bright books and nooks for kids to sprawl out in with a good book. She quickly picked a handful of books, then we made our way over to the kids computers. We played ABC Mouse, which is a subscription early learning site for children. Access to the website is usually around $60 a month, but it’s free for library members (Win!).
After playing on the computer, we found a quiet little nook to read a few books in. We decided not to take any books home on this trip, but I did take note of the self checkout stations located throughout the library on our way out. When we left, we made a promise to come back for another visit soon!
Next time you’re in the neighborhood, be sure to swing by to indulge in the beauty of the library. It’s located at 3940 Grandview Ave, Louisville, KY 40207. Hours are Monday – Thursday 10am – 9pm, Friday – Saturday 10am – 5pm, and Sunday 1pm – 5pm.
