Games, grains, and grub. Get ready to go back in time when visiting this J-Town institution.

Founded by two Louisville natives, Corey Simms and Tony Thomas, Recbar isn’t your typical arcade-meets-restaurant concept. Unlike Main Event or Dave & Busters, Recbar’s catalog of games includes some old school staples like NBA Jam, Mortal Kombat, and Super Smash Brothers. From pinball to skeeball and everything in between, Recbar houses a little bit of something for everyone in the entertainment department.

Equipped with 16 rotating beers on tap, over 50 cans and bottles to choose from and more than 130 classic games, Recbar is your new spot for catching a game or hosting a get-together – and it’s relatively kid-friendly if you come while the sun’s still out!

But if you ever find yourself at Recbar, don’t pass on the food. I made this mistake for several years until just recently and I wish I’d done it sooner. Recbar’s retro gaming environment makes it easy to forget that it’s also a full-service restaurant. Specializing in standard pub grub, Recbar’s menu is far from ordinary. In the mood for tacos? They’ve got ‘em. Heavy appetizers? They’ve nailed those. And I highly recommend getting the Pork Totchos.

These aren’t your typical totchos. These tots are cooked to perfection – crispy on the outside but fall-apart-in-your-mouth on the inside. Smothered in queso and topped with pork, bacon, green onions, honey bourbon BBQ and ranch, you might be wishing you ordered it as an entrée.

Speaking of entrées, the Breakfast Burger will always be my go-to if I find it on the menu. And while Mussel & Burger Bar has always held that number 1 spot for the best I’ve ever had, Recbar is giving them a run for their money. This burger came out sandwiched between two waffles! But what won me over was the syrup. I was told it’s just pure maple syrup, but this sweet and savory little cup of happiness made this burger. And because I chose tots as an appetizer, I settled on the Beer Cheese Mac and Cheese. I was a little nervous it wouldn’t pair well with the sweetness of the burger, but I ended up smashing some on top of it after taking my first bite.

Recbar is located on Taylorsville Road in the heart of J-Town. They host weekly pinball tournaments every Sunday night as well as several seasonally relevant events such as their Thanksgiving Eve Party for a Purpose: a St. Jude Benefit and their annual Toy Drive to give back to the community. Check out some of their other upcoming events here, and be on the lookout for more news on their second location opening across the bridge in New Albany!
